With a focus on centring clay, throwing, turning, controlling shape, refining & finishing, surface decoration at leather hard stage. You will be introduced to methods & techniques using demonstrations, explanations and reference to examples. Support and guidance will be offered through the duration of the course.
This is more than just a Pottery Course, we are offering an experience. You will be warmly welcomed into the studio where you will be encouraged to feel relaxed and at home. We are proud of our friendly, inclusive and open teaching style - understanding that each learner comes with their own learning style and individual goals, which we do our best to meet.
What you will learn?
Day 1
Introductions
centring & coning the clay
lifting and shaping
control throwing to make bowls
Day 2
continued guided practice of centring & coning skills
lifting and shaping
control throwing to make cylinders
Day 3
centring and securing leather hard pieces on the wheel - ready for ‘turning’
techniques for turning and refining bowls
foot rings, curves, different finishes using tools
option to apply carved decoration
Day 4
more turning skills
refining the cylinder forms
making and attaching handles
option to apply carved decoration
10am - 4pm each day (break for lunch)
**The teaching will finish at 4pm, however the studio will stay open until 6pm so you can stay back to practice and make as much as you like. This Open Access facility is included as part of the cost.

The cost includes all materials and equipment including 4 glazed & fired pieces which we will fire and glaze. You will have an option of 4 different glazes to choose from. Any pieces which you would like to keep over and above what’s included will be charged at £5 per piece.
**If the work needs to be posted this will be an additional cost of around £25 - £35 for P&P depending on the size and weight of the box. Also we pay extra for a ‘Fragile’ service to do the best we can to ensure no breakages.
